Tungsten ore activator – lead nitrate

In the flotation pulp, the distribution of the activator in the pulp is very important for the flotation of the target mineral. The metal ions of the activator are adsorbed on the surface of the mineral, which can increase the potential of the mineral surface and make the ion collector and the target mineral work better. Lead nitrate Pb (NO3) 2 is the most commonly used tungsten ore activator in tungsten ore flotation.

It can improve the effect of the collector and improve the flotation index. The appearance of lead nitrate is white cubic or monoclinic crystal, hard and shiny, easily soluble in water, and toxic. Lead nitrate Pb(NO3)2 has a strong activation ability for both wolframite and scheelite.

Studies have shown that when lead nitrate Pb(NO3)2 is used as an activator to carry out flotation tests on wolframite fine mud with a raw WO3 grade of 1.62%, the WO3 obtained is 66% and the recovery rate is 91% of the wolframite concentrate. The researchers analyzed and calculated the components of the hydrolyzed lead nitrate from the perspective of flotation solution chemistry and showed that when the pH is less than 9.5, Pb2+ and Pb (OH)+ are the main components that play an activating role. Lead nitrate can change the zeta potential of the surface of wolframite from negative to positive. The characteristic adsorption of lead ions on the surface of wolframite promotes the effect of anion collectors.
