Grasp the deadlines for exporting dangerous goods, cutting off orders, and cutting off declarations

Each link in the export process of dangerous goods has time requirements for operations. Foreign traders must grasp the time nodes during the export process so that they can ship goods on time and safely.

First of all, the shipping company’s price is valid. Generally, the dangerous goods price shipping company will update every half month, from the 1st to the 14th and 15th to 30th/31st of each month. The price for the second half of the month will be updated about 3 days before expiration. But sometimes, such as war in the Red Sea, drought in the Panama Canal, strikes at docks, tight positions, etc., shipping companies will notify prices by increasing or adjusting surcharges.

1. Booking time; for dangerous goods booking, we require booking 10-14 days in advance. The dangerous goods warehouse review takes about 2-3 days. Since the shipping company will have uncontrollable situations such as shared cabins, combined classes, and DG review, which will affect the approval time or even reject the shipment, there is sufficient time for processing. It is not uncommon for dangerous goods to be booked.

2. Cut-off time; this usually refers to the deadline for delivering the goods to the designated warehouse or terminal. For dangerous goods, they usually arrive at the designated warehouse 5-6 days before the ship sails. This is because the freight forwarder still needs to pick up the boxes, and the warehouse also needs to carry out interior loading and other related processes, especially the box picking process. If the time is late, the boxes may not be picked up, resulting in a delay in the shipping schedule. In addition, dangerous goods also need to be scheduled for entry into the port, so there is no point if the goods arrive early. Therefore, to ensure a smooth process, delivery must be completed within the specified cut-off time.

3. Order cut-off time; this refers to the deadline for submitting the bill of lading confirmation to the shipping company. After this time, it may not be possible to modify or add to the bill of lading. The order cut-off time is not completely strict. Generally, the shipping company will urge the order cut-off time after picking up the box. The pick-up time is usually about 7 days before sailing, because the port of departure is free of charge for 7 days. It should be noted that after the order is cut off, the bulk and cargo data can be changed, and an order change fee will be incurred. Information such as sending and receiving communications cannot be changed and can only be re-approved.

4. Deadline for declaration; In the export of dangerous goods, deadline for declaration is a very important link. This refers to the deadline for shipping companies to report dangerous goods information to the Maritime Safety Administration before closing orders. Dangerous goods can only be shipped after the declaration is completed. The deadline for declaration is usually 4-5 working days before the expected sailing date, but it may vary depending on the shipping company or route. Therefore, it is important to understand and comply with the relevant declaration deadline requirements in advance to avoid shipping delays or other problems caused by delayed declarations. The filing deadline is based on working days, so please make arrangements in advance during holidays.

To summarize: Book space 10-14 days in advance, cut off the goods 5-6 days before sailing, cut off the order after picking up the box (generally the order cut-off and declaration cut-off are at the same time), cut off the declaration 4-5 days before sailing, and cut off the order before sailing. Customs declaration takes 2-3 days, and the port opens about 24 hours before sailing.

Please note that the above time points may vary depending on specific shipping companies, routes, cargo types, and local regulatory requirements. Therefore, when exporting dangerous goods, it is important to communicate closely with freight forwarders, shipping companies, and relevant government agencies to ensure that all relevant regulations and requirements are understood and followed.
